DreamHost
I finally took the plunge and went with paid web hosting. I chose DreamHost, because I heard a lot of good things about it from people at work, and so far it has yet to disappoint. Perl, PHP, MySQL, WordPress, ssh, the works - and by using promo code “777″, it’s a steal at $0.77/month for a year ($9.24/year)! If you’re interested, check it out here.

Welcome to Dreamhost
… I’ve been with them for more than 5 years now, and it’s been great! Compared to the many hosts I’ve worked with on contract, these guys stand out … and they’re funny to boot.

Just curious, how did you find out about the 777 code?
When I signed up it asked for a promo code, so for the heck of it I went to Yahoo! Search and did a search for +dreamhost +”promo code” and I found some guy’s blog posting where he talked about the 777 code.
777 is dead.
“Promo50″ will save you some money.
yeah, 777 ended at the start of August. bummer.
The good news is that there are a ton of other promo codes floating around, so you can still get the plan for less than $3 a month. The cheapest setup I’ve found is $32 for the year: sign up for the “crazy domain insane” plan for a year and then enter the code 32please at checkout. $32 is a lot higher than $9.24, but it’s still a great discount on a plan that’s usually $119.
If that one doesn’t work (expires or something like that) you can try 299sale and get a year for $35.88, which is still pretty cheap, but 32please definitely makes for the cheapest non-sketchy hosting plan I’ve been able to find.
I would like to say that Meg’s codes above are making her money. I think people should disclose her money. DreamHost has instituted a new program that lets users create their own codes and set the discount amounts. It comes out of the set referral award.
I also have a code: 88ISGREAT. This takes $88 off your setup fee if you sign up for a yearly (or 2 year) plan. This works out to $31 for the year, a savings of $1 off the one above.
And yes, in the interest of full disclosure, I make a *little bit* of money off this. I’m giving almost all of my reward amount to you. (zero-sum game)
Oh, by the way, I’m not singling Meg out. If you see a blog comment touting a code, it’s most likely making that person money.
Best codes would give user maximum discount of $97.
