Possible solution to iTunes for Windows install hanging on QuickTime install
I managed to solve the problem I was having with installing iTunes that I just blogged about a few minutes ago:

Hopefully, this solutions works for the tons of other people that are having this problem… This seems to have worked for at least one person (http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=534780#post534780)
Here’s what I did:
- Install
QuickTime with the QuickTime standalone installer. If you already have QuickTime working, you probably can skip this. - Launch the iTunes 4.7.1 installer.
- Like clockwork, it does a bunch of stuff and the hangs at “installing QuickTime…”
- Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and bring up the Task Manager and select the “Processes” tab.
- Looks for a process called “QuickTimeFullInstaller.exe” and select it and then hit “End Process”.
- iTunes installer wakes up and proceeds with the result of the installation.
- When iTunes is done installing, it asks you if you want to reboot. I wasn’t about to argue with it after the previous hassles I had gone through…
- iTunes works! Play Gavin DeGraw to celebrate!
- Attempt to disseminate said knowledge to as many people that were having this problem as possible. I will probably do a few replies on the iTunes for Windows forums to let people know that this worked for me.

Works for me too. System: Windows 2000. The instant I clicked End Task on QuickTime installer, it finished the rest of the iTunes install in a snap. Hopefully other people find this helpful.
This appears to be related to running a ssh server. I am running windows with the cygwin sshd service and I have to disable the service to allow the quicktime install to complete then I re-enable the service.
Very weird. I have also noticed other applications (punkbuster) conflicting with this service.

I am running cygwin with an sshd, so that is quite possible what I was running into as well.
Holy crap, I’ve been battling this for ages. The problem appears to be Cygwin services in general. I’m not running sshd but I am running Cygwin cron. As soon as I stopped the service. iTunes installer merrily went about it’s business. Thanks all!!!
