I was curious (and skeptical) about all the hype about Sharper Image’s Ionic Breeze air purifier so I did a bit of research and found some pretty unfavorable stuff about it, including this article:

I found the same thing! I also found that smiliar air purifiers were charged with releasing unknown amounts of ozone and forced to shut down manufacturing of these ionizing air purifiers. The EPA recommends that people be exposed to no more than 0.05 parts per million of ozone in any eight hour period of time. There is no way to monitor and control the release of ozone without using a laser particle counter that is calibrated to measure O3. Those cost thousands of dollars. Thanks, but no thanks. I”d rather stick with a HEPA air cleaner that just has a simple filter to change. I’d rather that, than having irritated lungs.
