Microsoft’s “Monad” scripting language

Ted Neward says that Microsoft’s new “Monad” scripting language can replace Ruby

I doubt that. Ruby is cross-platform. And Ruby is typically used for web apps (e.g.: Ruby on Rails, which is where a lot of Ruby excitement comes from); not scripting.

I wonder if Monad even has monads (a la Haskell) or if they just chose it because Microsofties are into Haskell and the name sounded cool to them. Personally, I think “Monad” sounds too close to “Gonad”, we may very well see that nickname becoming popular on Slashdot sometime soon.

Is it just me or does Monad look like the illegitimate love child of Visual Basic and Bourne shell scripting?

Gah, the image of “the illegitimate love child of Visual Basic and Bourne shell scripting” scares me more than I can express!

Lol. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought Monad sounds a little too much like Gonad.
