Still a yankee

After seeing this on Jeff’s blog, I decided to take the test myself and got pretty similar results, which I guess is not too surprising since Jeff is originally from New Hampshire and I’m originally from New York and we both now live in the Silicon Valley of California.

Your Linguistic Profile::

i got something similar and english is not my first language:

    70% General American English
    20% Yankee
    5% Dixie
    0% Midwestern
    0% Upper Midwestern

  • Yeah, apparently you speak a purer form of English, since you learned it from more formal channels. And I guess you got yankee from Rochester.

  • In what is the most unsurprising, un-Earth-shattering, dullest news of the day (I hesitate to even call it news) — my score was 100% identical to yours. What a shocker.

Apparently I’m 25% country and only 15% rock-n-roll. In other’s words, too many y’alls and not enough you’ins.

So where’s the category for western? You can’t tell me they don’t speak another language out here.

  • Interesting test. I’m:
    60% General American English
    30% Dixie
    5% Yankee
    0% Midwestern
    0% Upper Midwestern.
Guess that mean’s I’m country. The test seems accurate b/c I’m from the South.
Like Ken said, “where’s the category for western?”
