Since my car just died on the freeway last night, I’m thinking more about getting a new car for my ~30 minute commute (mostly freeway) to work.

At the time, the Prius was pretty much the only non-luxury car that had those options. Today, they are available in almost any car.
Get a diesel, Clean burning bio-diesel fules, much better value for the money and no toxic batteries.

In fact, air conditioning can be a more efficient option at higher speeds.
