Spalti Ristorante is a nice Italian restaurant on California Ave. in Palo Alto. I used to go there a lot more when I lived near California Ave. Nicole and I went tonight and although we were a little disappointed with our carciofi (artichoke) appetizer, the Gnocchi del cardinale and Risotto del giorno (with roast pork loin, asparagus, and mozarella) were quite good.

Woodland Creek Apartments
We visited Woodland Creek Apartments in East Palo Alto today. They look nice (from the outside at least), but they’re in a pretty awful neighborhood so we’re probably not going to give them any further consideration. Bay Area housing sucks.

Wow, Yahoo bought Flickr. Very interesting!
Jeremy has some thoughts on Yahoo’s acquisition of Flickr.

I’m interested to see what comes out of this. My bet is the first thing will be integration with the upcoming Yahoo! 360.
Possible solution to iTunes for Windows install hanging on QuickTime install
I managed to solve the problem I was having with installing iTunes that I just blogged about a few minutes ago:
What is up with iTunes/QuickTime for Windows?
Hopefully, this solutions works for the tons of other people that are having this problem… This seems to have worked for at least one person (http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=534780#post534780)
What is up with iTunes/QuickTime for Windows?
On my Win2k system, attempting to upgrade iTunes results in it hanging at the “Installing QuickTime” step and then eating 100% of my CPU. So I found this tip at the iTunes for Windows forums, but then installing the standalone QuickTime player also hangs and eats 100% of my CPU.
So then I tried uninstalling my existing QuickTime first (from Add/Remove programs). It asked me if I wanted to uninstall just the programs or uninstall everything (NOT RECOMMENDED – things could break, your computer may combust, your wife may leave you, etc…) so I selected just the apps. Attempt to install QuickTime again. Hang. 100% CPU. Reboot AGAIN.
Next time I uninstalled QuickTime and told it to nuke everything. Now, my next attempt to reinstall the standalone QuickTime succceeded. Ah, progress. So time to install iTunes again. HANG. Erggh.
In general, iTunes for Windows is pretty smooth, but this sucks. And it’s not just me – others are having this problem as well:
Updates

Real Alternative
I was looking to play a RealAudio stream (.ram file) today and I was dreading having to install the big piece of bloatware that is RealPlayer/RealOne/RealAnnoying whatever the heck they call it these days. So I did a search and came up with this, which is free, installed with no fuss in a minute, and played the stream just fine with its built-in Media Player Classic:
Making Bash Do Your Work for You
There are a few interesting ideas here and the author has perhaps the same idea that I had – of building a standardized bashrc environment that is powerful and easily customizable.
