From treoAddicts:
A few weeks ago I started experiencing problems where my Treo 650 would become totally unresponsive – none of the keys would work. Even a reset didn’t help. I was convinced my Treo had died but I eventually happened upon the cause.
Somewhere along the way, my right shift key lost its elasticity and became hard as a rock with no spring to it. It’s permanently stuck physically and apparently it very easily gets stuck electronically as well, thereby disabling all other keys.
I’ve tried and failed to unwedge the key with a tiny screwdriver or needlenose pliers. It still has that hard feeling with no give. Next I guess I’d try opening up the unit, but it seems to need some tiny Torx bit that I don’ have (smaller than T-10). Anyone complete this operation successfully?
I’m experiencing the same problem. Haven’t completed the operation you describe, but it is my next (potential) step. Please keep us updated on your progress.
I may just leave it alone, since it’s only a minor annoyance. I did find this though, which may be useful for anyone who ever decides to do it:

My husband and I both have 650’s and his Right Shift key is stuck down, no spring anymore. Gratefully enough it has not rendered his unit unusable, but it sure is annoying.
When I’m sure i have all the tools, I’ll take a stab at it and try to fix it.
Thanks for the post.
Mine just did the same thing today. I had it for like 2 months and only used it in a normal manner. Didn’t drop it. Didn’t bang it. The keys were just not working and I realized it was because of the right shift being stuck down. What gives? Design flaw I guess. I read their page and it seems I will have to pay if I want it repaired.
OK, I voided my warranty and did the same thing as the guy Marc posted. Works fine now. Thank you for the suggestion!
