Emacs: TRAMP + bookmarks = awesome

Nothing radical here. Just the simple observation that TRAMP and
bookmarks were made for each other. TRAMP allows you to access files on
remote machines, but the path names are kind of long and hard to
type. But once you open that sucker, you can bookmark it with C-x
r m
. Then in the future to open it, use C-x r b to
jump to a named bookmark or C-x r l to list your bookmarks.

It’s like hamburgers and cheese. Great on their own, but even better
together.

  1. Hehe. I actually haven’t been using bookmarks with TRAMP. Instead I’ve been putting in convenient hostnames in my ssh config and taking advantage of TRAMP’s autocomplete support. Bookmarks seems like a much better idea though.

  3. This is super old, but it still kicks arse and lets me save a ton of horrid typing. Thanks a lot.
