Flakes

Since we’re moving soon to a new home, we’re in the process of selling all our old crap so we don’t have to move it.

Selling your stuff can be a frustrating experience because a lot of people will ping you and tell you they want your stuff and make you bring it in or save it for them or carve out time for them and then they go incommunicado and disappear. Even telling me that you’ve changed your mind wouldn’t be too bad, but a lot of folks just disappear or say they’re still interested but continue to make excuses for why they can’t pick up the item today.

Sometimes if things aren’t worth that much, it’s easier to just give them away and save yourself the time of having to deal with people.

  1. Yeah, we’ve learned the same thing. Interestingly, people seem to be less flaky if you are selling for cheap on Craiglist than if you are offering it for free on FreeCycle. But, yeah, just schlepping it to GoodWill seems to be easiest of all.

(BTW, when I enter the captcha code then hit TAB, my cursor ends up in the search box, not the next field of the form. I don’t know what’s up with that, whether it’s a browser bug or some problem with your HTML.)

  2. That can be frustrating, I ended up giving away a lot of stuff when we were clearing out our house. The only problem was with larger stuff like the dishwasher and arranging times for people to pick it up.
heh, the 17″ monitor woman from my previous comment took the wheelbarrow and all the garden tools (easy to wheel across the road).
In the UK here the problem is that if you don’t sell/donate stuff it’s really hard to get shot of it as there are new regulations regarding household waste. No small amount of stuff was popped in a skip along with the waste when we replaced the kitchen.
