PreSonus FireStudio

It’s been way too long since I’ve done any music creation. Perhaps in a couple of months when I get the home into a decently organized state, I’ll look for some studio gear for the spare bedroom and this new gizmo from NAMM will probably be pretty high on my list:

PreSonus FireStudio FireWire Recording Interface (Complete System)

A few months ago, I had gotten fairly close to buying the FirePod or FireBox on the basis of great reviews that it was getting, but then I got sidetracked by other stuff, including the new home. The FireStudio is an even more powerful piece of gear so if the reviews are good and I get some time to make room for it, I might end up picking one of these.

Damn it’s hot

Our air conditioning works but not super, super well, so I’m worried that it’s going to get pretty hot at home. Luckily, we were out today so we didn’t get to find out.

I’ve got the air conditioning working quite a bit better than before by removing wood slats in the fence that a previous owner installed around the compressor, hosing it off a bit, and straightening some of the bent fins. It’s much better, but it still has trouble getting the household temperature below 80 during the day. Might have to get an HVAC guy out to check everything and see whether it needs a freon recharge.

My phone is driving me crazy

We are getting ridiculous amounts of bogus phone calls. Just this morning:

7/22 10:28am 916-290-4350 telemarketing background; then in foreground someone yells, laughs, and hangs up.

We’re already done the donotcall.gov thing so we’re in the middle of our 30 day period, but even after that I’m not convinced that these folks are law-abiding citizens who subscribe to the donotcall list. I’ll probably try telezapping these folks and if that doesn’t work, I might just get rid of our landline. We don’t use our phone a heck of a lot anyway and I don’t want to pay $20 or $30 a month for something that rings 2 or 3 times an hour and disturbs us. Interestingly, neither of us are getting any of this junk on our cell phones.
