Comcast should be coming out on Monday to install two CableCARDs in our TiVo Series 3. The first one is free and the second is $1.50 per month and they charge $15 for installation.

I guarantee that they are going to try and screw you. Make sure to insist on getting a rate card when the installer comes by. He/She won’t want to give this to you, but belive me it’s important.
When you get your first bill don’t let them tell you that the $5 HDTV charge applies. According to officially Comcast policy they can only charge you $1.50 and that’s for the 2nd cable card.
You also don’t need digital TV, so if you don’t have some weird fetish for the military channel then call up and cancel that because it will save you $15 per month and while it’s required for the comcrap DVR, it’s not for the TiVo.
Finally, don’t be afraid to question your bill. They’re going to put an extra $6.95 charge on the bill for an additional digital converter because Comcast doesn’t understand how you can have two cable on one TV. Stick to your guns, they can’t charge this per FCC rules. It will be frustrating, it will take several hours of your time and a lot of follow up, it may even end up costing you by their turning off your digital signals, but once you get through it all, it will feel better.
My first bill. $125 with internet. My bill now $75 with internet. Countless conference calls with attornies in Philadelphia, arguing over false advertising and free cable after mistake after mistake after mistake, priceless.
