Software Engineer – Flex Force
Description
The Flex Force team at Yahoo is dedicated to providing highly skilled engineers to a variety of projects. We act as an internal “consulting” team, providing short to medium term resourcing to dedicated product engineering teams that have critical or time sensitive problems. In the past we’ve contributed to highly visible products such as Yahoo! Mail and anti-spam, Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! Photos, Overture, Yahoo! Search and others.The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who likes a dynamic environment and assignments that change every 3-8 months. As a member of the team you will get wide exposure to a variety of Yahoo’s products. Due to the rapidly changing team environment, strong communications and teamwork skills are a must.
Skills/Qualifications
Required:
- MS/BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
- 5-7+ years industry experience building scalable systems in C/C++ on a Unix platform
- A proven track-record of technical leadership, including responsibility for design or architecture
- Good development-process skills: structured design documentation, build processes, coding styles, testing frameworks, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and take opportunities for code re-use
- Interest and demonstrated ability to work in complex team environments, with evolving team membership
Preferred:
- Experience working in a consulting firm or relevant experience within an internal staffing pool
- Experience w/ building highly available clustered applications
- Experience w/ relational databases, particularly Oracle and MySQL
- Experience w/ web-scripting languages including Perl or PHP
- Experience with agile methods, such as test-driven development
