IrfanView Shell Extension

IrfanView Shell Extension is an incredibly simple but useful freeware Windows program. It extends the excellent IrfanView image tool so that you can quickly do some of the more common operations, such as file format conversions, directly from the right-click context menu of Windows Explorer.

My favorite use of it is for JPEG screenshots for bug reports and blog postings (because BMPs are too darn big). I hit the Print Screen key and then create a new .BMP in Windows Paint and paste with Ctrl+V, save the .BMP file, right-click it and select IrfanView | Convert to JPG.

eCleaner

eCleaner is a freeware program that is used for cleaning up long email exchanges with lots of ‘>’ characters in them. Here’s a review from About.com.

Since the author of eCleaner isn’t really maintaining it anymore and his site is a free web site with bandwidth restrictions, I thought I’d offer a copy of it for anyone who wants to download this freeware program.

Automatic Bluetooth syncing

I’ve got my Palm Tungsten T2 talking to my PC over Bluetooth, using a Linksys USBBT100 Bluetooth Class 1 USB dongle:

Linksys-Cisco Linksys USB Bluetooth Adapter USBBT100 - network adapter ( USBBT100-CA )

The best thing about Bluetooth is that I can use a great piece of software called BtSync, which wakes the device up at a configurable interval (I currently have it set at an hour) and does an automatic HotSync if my PC is within range.

This is beautiful. I don’t even have to remember to HotSync and when I wake up in the morning, my AvantGo and Plucker stuff is all up to date.
