Retrospect Express HD “didn’t compare at offset” problems

This happened to me once before with the Retrospect Express HD software that came with my Maxtor OneTouch external hard drive, but I don’t remember how I fixed it :-(.

Performance: 35.0 MB/minute (52.5 copy, 52.5 compare)
Duration: 00:03:20 (00:03:16 idle/loading/preparing)

I did a disk check and now I’m defragging and hoping that clears up the problem.

Maybe if that doesn’t work, then I’ll try the steps that I took to fix my other problem. Completely different problem, but I suspect that blowing away the Retrospect metadata might be a cure for a lot of consistency problems.
